There's a big push on the DF boards requesting the gains rate be made permanent, and surges removed.
I am hoping it happens....
America - We Will Kill You in Your Sleep on Christmas
If that happens, then there is a high chance I might actually look at playing again. One of my biggest problems with Darkfall with the huge grind on skills, if that is removed and they allow me to hoon about having fun and pvping... well that sounds like loads of fun to me.
They better do it before GW2/Archeage comes out though, if not then I will be too absorbed there.
Nice update though Imrys.
Well, how to start?
I received Vadriel's email a few weeks back about a free weekend coming up on DarkFall and thought it would be a good plan to try out the game again even if only for a few hours I might have had spare and maybe meet some old friends.
I resubbed Kreen for the weekend and joined the game to find I was at the Mirrorsea island out in the middle of nowhere. I vaguely remember now back in March 2010 when I was a bit fed up with clan stuff in game and just needed a break from all of that and also to grind some magic given I was getting nowhere fast, all melee, archery and solid passive skills but only LM and GM magic and my personal life was also going through alot of change, anyway more on that later.
Back to appearing at Mirrorsea. Within 15 minutes of logging on I was in pvp and got toasted 3 times before I had a good fun chat with my opponents. Spent about an hour talking about how the game had changed etc and what was new, one of the guys was in beta as well and had heard of Oromea, wall of pain, rigormids etc etc. They were kind enough to give me a pile of gear and gold and some regs which together with the stuff I still had in my vault made me look relatively rich. I spent another hour over at the goblin spawn on Mirrorsea levelling some magic and the rate was very quick
Came back on for another 2 hours and after some more grinding I got my WC to 75, GM to 95 and each of the elementals to 50 (previously WC was 51, GM was 86 and elementals were 40 something each). During that session had another run in with a few folks but once it was obvious to them my skills consisted of a smack hard polearm, good archery, decent dodging, a few heals and base spells and not much else they didn't finish me off and wanted to know who I was and another fun chat occurred. These folks also called me to the bank and gave me a pile of stuff, regs etc.
Anyway, I have decided to renew my sub for a month anyway to tour Agon, many places I still haven't seen, have some fun in pvp and work on my skills a bit in a casual sort of way. There is even a spec for me now, its called destroyer/magehunter and is perfect for a WC LM GM heavy melee/archery dude, I'll try that out. Plus I am eager to see what has become of Tughri. I see Lux Arcana still have it
So if anyone is on the EU server, and wants a chat etc, look me up, I will be playing casual hours though, 2 or so hours a EU night and maybe a few more hours at the weekends depending on RL so its possible we might miss each other. I do need to fix my alignment though before I visit any cities, I am minus 50 or so so I will need to win a few pvp's anwyay against those evil races
Now, on to the RL stuff, which deserves some explanation. Back end of 2009, early 2010 my work life was going through a lot of change, had taken on a new role at work with a lot more responsbility. On top of that, I somehow ended up helping out in running the Oromea folks still on EU1 although Fly and a few others did the vast majority of the heavy lifting to be sure. The politics/overhead in the game at that time as we tried to keep hold of Tughri on behalf of Oromea plus the politics in my work life plus my family in the end just got too far out of hand and something had to give and the final straw was some illnesses in my family. Having effectively three families to run to some degree was to much for me to handleThankfully, on a personal level my family are now back to full health and my work life is back to some sense of normality (I can do my new job now
) and I now have some time for computer games again. So, many apologies for dropping off the planet so to speak with not so much as a goodbye.
Many thanks for sending the reminder, it certainly made me remember fondly all those good times I spent in Agon with many of youit was by far the best MMO expereince I have had to date surpassing Starwars Dark and Light and Vanguard and I look forward to seeing you in games in future.
Cheers,
Kreen
Hey Kreen, welcome back!!
Sorry to inform you, you no gain alignment from killing reds. You have to go to Chaos cities that have Chaos Churches and pay 2k gold. You can do that once per day, and it gives +2 alignment.
Sucks I know.
Best advice for you would be to find a clan so you can have a place to live out of.
I have been -100 for ages and I don't grief or aggress nubs. Pretty dumb. Glad you are having fun though, DF is a great game!! I missed the Surge Weekend because we are on vacation... /sigh.
America - We Will Kill You in Your Sleep on Christmas
Thanks folks
Well is did resub last week for just 1 month. I have logged on for 1-2 hours per night over the last 8 days or so. Spent the first night going though all the stuff in my bank to see what I actually had in terms of regs, gear, gold etc given some kind people had donated some stuff to me during the free weekend.
I put together 10 ready bags with decent kit and then spent the next few nights on the island working on the mobs there as they were part of a couple of title quests really as a way of sorting out my toolbars again, getting used to the skills and trying out some of my new spells. I also finished a few crafting professions, built a raft and sailed around for a bit and messed about with digging, very low key but at least I remembered what spells did what and sorted out bindings and which keys to press again. You can also dig up some very odd things with the digging minigame
I did note that a lot of my armor was now rubbish, it looked like they must have done a stat upgrade since the bone armor sets I got from the folks at the free weekend was alot better than the older stuff I had. I see they have also nerfed polearm. The new polearms I had were much slower than the older ones. Everyone I meet is 2 handed sword now, so much for 99/64 polearm
Didn't see another soul at all during this whole time but it was a nice change of pace. Then during the last weekend I geared up and visited Ruby and the mainland. Got into some pvp and burnt through a few bags and generally died rather quickly, was fun though. Everyone I meet has very high magic and many spells, hardly surprising given I have been away for over a year.
I visited the chaos church at Janhalek and paid 2k for one praying session, but that will be a long process and I don't have the gold or more importantly the time to clear it. I did raise a support request to see whether AV will clear my alignment given I have been away of ages but don't expect they will.
On Monday I headed back to Mirrorsea with the plan to join up with Lux for a bit but those folks are nowing leaving DF, very sad and are giving up their holdings. The server is very empty to be honest. Most folks are leaving it seems. I think I will log on one last time later on in the week I think to check out Tughri as I have a couple of bound runestones for that city still and then wait until the mythical DF 2.0 comes along.
After reading some of the links on Archage I must say that looks promising but I expec it will be a good while before it is ready.
Cheers,
Kreen
