Thread: OOC: Gauging interest in a multi-participant, DM'd Adventure.

Default OOC: Gauging interest in a multi-participant, DM'd Adventure.

    OOC:
    Hi guys!

Looking to do something a little different in the way of RP for us all, but curious first of all whom would be interested!

To explain, quite some time ago, came up with a DnD / SPECIAL inspired forum game system with which to run DM'd (Dungeon Mastered) RP events.

Every character has a character sheet, abilities, feats, etc, and posts their desired 'actions' (within the confines of their characters available Action Points) into the actions thread, once done, I post into a story/results thread, detailing what actually transpired based on the rolls of any skill based moves taking place and the like.

Again, at this point, I'm merely looking for signs of interest. I do not want a huge party for this initial run, I'm thinking 3-4 people would be ideal.

If there are at least that many with some modicum of intrigue in the concept of participating, then I'll post up full details, how characters are made, more specifics of the feats available and what it all means.
    Take care,
    - Naithin,.

Sounds interesting. Could we get some details. Like is it a turn per day/week/ect?

or could you post an example like you would expect from the participants?

I'm guessing it would be like you have 10 action points,

Example; DM: as your riding along the trail you come see up ahead a young girl who is obviously hurt and moaning.

Lorak: I ride up to the girl (3), dismount(1), draw sword and shield(1),walk over to the girl(2) and scan the surrounding forest for any sign of her attackers/ambush(3). (10 points total end of turn)

Like that? ** point total cost are purely a figment of my imagination and made up on the spot for this example**

You got the idea of the action points, aye. The idea of the Action Points came about because in the first iteration of the system, I found that most players had a tendency to await posts from the other players, because they wished to act in accordance with the other people.

Of course, this ends up with it taking for ever to cajole the first posts out of everyone, so isn't exactly ideal. The AP mean that you can do some actions, and if you have AP left over, use the rest of them later. It aided a lot in getting people to post without being afraid of going first.

Now, as for turn duration, it's pretty simple. A post by me in the 'story' or result thread denotes a turn has gone by. All AP are reset, and people are then able to post to the action thread in response to what has transpired in the story. Ideally we get this moving at a decent pace, i.e., no more than 3-4ish days between story posts.

As for what is expected of people, the main part of the expectations are as follows:
    * Spending some time creating your character in the first place - your history and motivations etc can be the same as your Oromea character if you so wish, although note you will not be playing in Agon, and you'll still need to setup your attributes and talents in accordance with the system.

    * A reasonable belief that you will be able to post to the action thread at least once every 3-4 days.

Now, the posts in the action threads do not need to be fantastic, but they should make clear what you wish to attempt to do, and denote the AP cost throughout, pretty much like you did in your example.

    ---

I went to try hunt down some of the previous runs of this, but only come up with scraps. <shakes fist> Seems the eleador boards have misplaced some posts during their upgrade which is a little sad. For instance, I can only find the story thread of the first session and only the tutorial action threads - but no result thread - of the second session. Well, also the signup thread as well which has some useful information, although looking over it now, I put a surprising number of stupid mistakes in that thing while describing it. :P

    Anyways, some linkies:

    Session 1: Story
This one died a terrible early death due to lack of posts in the action thread. Because at this point, one post from each player constituted their full turn that round; there was no concept of action points.

Another mistake I made with this round was having everyone begin strangers; made for a very slow beginning having to introduce everyone and get them together. Nonetheless, there was potential to be seen here, so I refined the system a little and then started again some time later!

Take 2's Signup and Character Stats Thread
This one is probably the most informative, but it was posted assuming a general knowledge of how round 1 worked, so not absolutely everything is explained it. I also made some really dumb errors with the descriptions of some feats and the description of the system in general. So anything that makes you go, 'Huh?' was probably in error. If interest is sufficient, I'll be rewriting it from scratch for informational purposes here!
    Take care,

Sprite would be in, as usual. But this time someone make Nait promise to follow through!

    Double Yay Sprite!

I will! I'm being less ambitious with this one, as I said, lookin for a 3-4 person party max, rather than our last attempts dual parties of 5/6 a piece. That was just too much of a work load to handle, in truth. First session we did was of a much more reasonable size, and was going well, just had so few actually doing the actions due to the 1 post per turn implementation, rather than the AP.

    So! This time! <3

I'll join in. Would this be dnd4e based?

EDIT: Just read your links, and realized it isn't, really. Is this system y our own creation?

It's a system I created, yeah, but it is very heavily inspired from both DnD 3E and also Fallout's SPECIAL system.

In any case though, that is enough interest for me! I'll get to posting more detailed infos soon.

If more than 4... *Maybe* 5 people apply with high quality characters apply, will chose the best 4 (or 5) to go through in this round. And by best I mean best character write up, along with best mix for an interesting party.

I am also interested, despite every forum-based RP I've ever seen has quickly run out of gas and imploded.

I'm equally interested in just seeing how the system works.
I hate that stupid godforsaken forumfall.
